mind.
Formerly based out of New York City, now at home in Asheville, North
Carolina, and with our Managing Editor currently situated in Reykjavik,
Iceland, MadHat Press is open to authors of all creeds and distinctions,

MadHat Press places great emphasis on the aesthetics of design, typography
and the printed word. It is MadHat Press’s vision to connect the reader with
the physicality of the book in its creative unraveling. The Press will also

New Issue from Jersey Devil Press
Jersey Devil Press, Issue #22
http://www.jerseydevilpress.com/
“Golden Hours,” comes all the way from Brazil, by way of California ex-pat Colleen Chen, and tells the tale of a man with a remarkable, if short-lived, gift. Next is the fairy tale retelling “Red,” by Christopher Owen, followed by the Catholic dogma retelling “Jesus’ Nephew,” by Joe Thompson. After that is the sad, creepy “Mammy’d Give Me Minds To Eat,” by Graham Tugwell, who wins the award for having the most porn star-like name we’ve ever published. And last, but certainly not least, is “Jolly Roger,” by Michael Sions, a story that expertly combines corpses, pirates, and insurance salesmen.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to board up the windows before the sun realizes I’m in here.
The online version of this month’s issue is here, and the .pdf can be downloaded by clicking here.

New Release from road/house-Saint Vitus Press
Gangsters, Harlots & Thieves: Down and Out at the Hotel Clifton
Poems and Essays by Todd Moore, Edited by Theron Moore
Todd Moore spent the last 40+ years writing prolific poetry and prose in the small press community. He co-founded the literary genre known as “Outlaw Poetry” with fellow writer Tony Moffeit and established a solid reputation for himself when he began writing and publishing books & chapbooks about famed outlaw John Dillinger beginning in 1978 up until his death in 2010. I wrote this book, Gangsters, Harlots & Thieves: Down and Out at the Hotel Clifton, to not only honor my father and the literary legacy he created, but his contributions to the field of poetry and the small press as well. Gangsters, Harlots & Thieves… paints a bigger than life picture of what it was like growing up in and around the seedy, skid row environs of the infamous Hotel Clifton and the true life adventures my father had interacting with many of the shady characters that hung out there, whether it was to score dope, hook for johns, or because they were drunks and/or derelicts that had nowhere else to go. It’s also an exploration into what sparked my father’s literary passion as a kid and takes a look at how he was inundated with, and why and how he came to embrace outlaw culture, as well as examining the relationship he had with his father, a failed novelist, professional alcoholic, and a tough guy gangster type who at one time did a little work for Capone himself. This book tells this story, and much more. Reading Gangsters, Harlots & Thieves… is kind of like watching a Cagney movie like “White Heat,” its film noir come to life; it has the vibe and groove of Frank Miller’s Sin City; it’s gritty, it’s raw, it’s violent, and brutally honest in a bare knuckle fighting kind of way. These are my father’s stories and recollections of a bygone era that influenced an entire outlaw / gangster pop culture producing movies like “Bonnie and Clyde,” “The Untouchables,” and more recently, “Public Enemies” with Johnny Depp, just to name a few. This book is told with his voice through autobiographical writing & essays that employ his trademark quick description, quick narrative and pulp fiction inspired dialog allowing Gangster, Harlots and Thieves… to connect with the reader immediately, whether they’re familiar with Todd Moore, or not. Part biography, part autobiography, Gangster, Harlots and Thieves… will grab you, hold onto you, and not let you go until the fat lady sings or the last shot of whiskey is finally downed. Enjoy! -- Editor Theron Moore

Mad Hatters’ Review is an online journal with a collaborative spirit that caters to an international audience with an appreciation for wit, whimsy, dark humor, satire, lyricism, rhythm, word play and post postmodern post avant-garde literature, art, music, politics, films, columns, book reviews, interviews, scratch n sniff projects, collages, literary audios, etc.
We at MHR see the Mad Hatters’ Review Blog as a gathering place for courtiers of spoken and unspoken words, inventive images and music, and of course, the mad at heart, to stay informed and invigorated.
Forthcoming snapshots of the multi-media landscape will feature poetry, flash fiction, interviews, reviews, visuals, audios, and contributors’ news—in short, whatever strikes hosts and editors Marc Vincenz and Susan Lewis as intriguing or enlightening for freethinking arts enthusiasts everywhere.
Check in for the latest on the MadHat’s Little Mountain Retreat in Ashville, North Carolina, MadHat Press’s Wild and Wyrd Poetry Chapbook Contest –to be judged by the quintessentially mind-bending Philly poet CAConrad— + a ghostly mini-interview with CAConrad himself.
The Mad Hatters’ Review Blog welcomes submissions of single poems, flash fictions, short interviews, audio works, visuals, multimedia pieces and reviews all year round. For poems, no more than 15 lines. For flash fictions, no more than 300 words. Please include a short biography. Include the name of your piece in the Submission Title.
